The Vanishing Point retractable fountain pen features an unconventional mechanism that is more commonly found in ballpoint pens. With a retractable nib unit that is well hidden and sealed in the metal barrel, the nib will not dry out and you will never have to worry about losing a cap.

The pen has a larger body that is nice to hold on to for extensive period of writing. There is a clip that allows you to securely store the pen in your front pocket with the nib pointing upwards.

It is available in several barrel/trim colour combinations, all featuring an 18K gold nib that has a matching colour with the trim, i.e. gold trim will come with a gold colour nib, rhodium trim will come with a silver colour nib.

Each pen comes with a cartridge and a converter, nicely presented in a gift box. It is compatible with the Pilot IC-50 and IC-100 cartridges.

Beware unexpected costs

I was looking for a pen to use for quick notes, edits, etc. without having to remove and post a cap each time. The Vanishing Point seemed to fit the brief.

Ordering was painless and delivery quick, despite the current pandemic. The pen itself feels nice to hold (the clip position doesn't bother me at all) and the fine nib has so far delivered smooth, consistent writing on every paper I've thrown at it.

The big problem came when I let my wife try it. Now I have to order a Decimo for her. This has turned out to be a more expensive pen than I expected. If you buy one of these, keep it to yourself.

I should knock half a star off for the tiny capacity of the convertor. Compared to my TWISBI, it seems like it's going to run out every time I use it.

Superb pen, smooth writing, practical retractable system

I write a lot so screwing/unscrewing the cap is not something practical for me, so I tried the renowned Pilot system and I'm very pleased with it.
The gold nib is extremely smooth, and I like the medium nib I bought, which is on the broader size, which I like a lot.
Remains to see if the gold finish is resistant to wear.
Recommended, for a relatively reasonable price.
